January 2012
"Houston, we have a problem." Those famous words from the Apollo 13 commander always come to my mind when I think of the huge city where we came for Pam's surgery. And I guess you could say we came because of a problem, which has needed to be fixed for many years (How's that for a transition?). If you have been following our lives, you know that Pam had a total right knee replacement in 2004 in Colorado Springs. At that time, she needed both knees replaced, but because of a particularly bad experience with that right knee operation, she held off on the other one as long as she could. When she could stand it no longer, we decided against doing the left knee in Colorado Springs because of the altitude, The last time, she had already been in Colorado for several weeks before the surgery and so had had time to adjust to the altitude. But there wasn't enough time on this trip for that adjustment. So we came to Houston.

Welcome 2012! We hope your new year is off to a good start. With regard to the mission, ours certainly is, and we look forward to exciting things in 2012. Lately I’ve been assembling furniture in the process of making our new facility useable for worship and evangelism. With this facility, we will be able to do so many new things to share Christ with the city. In 2012 we look forward to putting the church on the map in České Budějovice.

Kirsty's Journey It is always a joy to begin a post with outstanding news! As you can see
from the pictures we have a new babe in Christ :) Kirsty is a lovely
girl and has made the choice to "Draw close to God." Two Friday
nights ago during our class, I was standing in line at the St Combs ice
cream van, when I got the message that Kirsty was waiting to talk to
me. As soon as I saw her face I knew the look of conviction in her eyes.
We talked for a while about what had caused her heart to be cut and for
her to make this cry for help. I say this every time, but when you get
to see first hand a soul finding their way back the their Father it is
humbling and beautiful! We arranged to meet the following Thursday to
study and to make sure Kirsty was totally convinced she was ready to
surrender her life to the King.

Growth...
 I
used an illustration recently about growth. It was centered on a
conversation between an apple grower and a friend. The friend asks,
"Show me a perfect apple." The farmer picks a small, green apple from
the tree and hands it to his friend. The friend is surprised and
expresses his confussion, "It is not red and I can't eat it yet!" The
farmer responds, "For it's age and stage it is perfect!" For the complete post please go to: http://bfstrachan.blogspot.com/2011/11/growth.html |

To my brothers and sisters in Christ,
My time here in the Dominican Republic has flown by. I am now in my fourth month in the Dominican, and I can honestly say that God has done some amazing things. My ministry is going extremely well, and I credit that to God and all the prayers that he has received on a daily basis from those back in the states.

I try to take an early morning walk six days a week. Dawn is a noisy time here at Namwianga, full of tweets (real ones), chirps and whistles. Emerald-spotted doves coo, “Ku, ku-ku, ku ku ku ku ku ku ku”, while turtledoves fuss, “Work harder! Work Harder! Blacksmith Plovers dive bomb anyone crossing their territory, shrieking “kivi kivi kivi kivi!!” Loweries yell, “Go away!” Some times of the year turkey-sized Moombas drum in monotone, “Who killed, Who killed my mother? Who killed, who killed my father?” Woodpeckers tap. Roosters crow, turkeys gobble, cattle low.
God is good.

I trust this letter finds you in good health. I began writing in the middle of March but as you see time has passed between then and completing it, so here I am starting again. I apologise for that. As I write the sun is shining as it has been for a few days. The children are able to play outside so long may the good weather last.

Dear beloved Christian family: Many of you are currently experiencing
awful natural disasters, with tornadoes and all sorts of wind and rain.
We don't get all the news here, but we get enough to know that this is
quite an exceptional storm system and a terrible spring for you. If you
are reading this and have been affected, — lightly or heavily — by these
storms, please let us know so that we can join with you in prayer
before the Father who, even in our suffering, cares for us all in
unmatchable ways.

2010 Missions Report
2010 was a year of many challenges and blessings at the Church of Christ in Campinho, Rio de Janeiro. I had the opportunity to work in new ministries this past year, focusing mainly on the Children’s Ministry and organizing our churches small groups while continuing to support leaders in other ministries as well as do evangelism and personal Bible studies.
If you’re reading this report, I hope that you will take the time to pray individually for each aspect of this work. Your prayers are important!
